Seal inspection: no pack leaves the line open

A cold seal or one with trapped product can hold on the line and fail on the shelf. We check the seal on every pack and, using process statistics, alert you when it starts to drift, before the defect appears.

Nadir screen: inspected carton pack, measurement histograms with their bell curve and the trigger signal

What it does

Inspects every seal and watches the process

The camera measures every seal and compares it with its recipe. Where classic vision falls short (reflective surfaces, folds, variable materials) we apply deep learning, with neural networks trained on your good and bad packs. Our Nadir software adds the statistics: mean, spread and bell curve for each measurement, to show whether the process is stable.

  • Seal width and continuity
  • Product trapped in the seal, creases and folds
  • Bottom seals and openings on carton packs
  • Drift alarm, before the first reject
  • Photo of every reject and instant alerts to whoever you choose

Our approach

Classic vision, deep learning or both

Not every seal is inspected the same way. In each case we work out which technique gives the reliability you need and tell you before you sign, including anything that can't be guaranteed.

Classic vision

Measurements and rules

When the defect can be measured: width, position, presence. Fast, stable and easy to explain.

Deep learning

Difficult defects

For whatever varies from one pack to the next: folds, reflections, materials or natural products.

Statistics

The process in numbers

Histograms and trends for each measurement, to know whether the sealer is drifting out of adjustment.

Bottom seal, monitored by deep learning

With Nadir we detect sealing problems on the bottom of carton packs using deep learning, and process statistics anticipate drift before it turns into defects.

FAQ

What we're often asked

What types of pack can be inspected?

Packs with a weld or heat seal, such as cartons and carton packs, bags, blisters or tubs, depending on the case. In the feasibility test we look at your specific pack and tell you whether it can be inspected reliably.

Is deep learning always needed?

No. If the defect can be measured, classic vision is simpler and more stable. We reserve deep learning for what classic vision doesn't handle well.

How does it warn before the defect appears?

Nadir records every measurement and calculates its mean and spread. When the trend moves outside normal limits the alarm goes off, even if no packs have been rejected yet.

What happens to rejected packs?

They are removed from the line, and every reject is stored with its photo, time and reason, available to quality and for any audit or complaint.

Can your seal defect be detected?

Send us good and bad samples. We'll tell you which technique works with your pack and with what expected reliability.
